Margaret Mary “Peg” Dolan, R.S.H.M.,’58, ’74—Sister Peg as she is affectionately known—has tirelessly ministered to the Loyola Marymount University community in various capacities for more than three decades. On Saturday, Sept. 27, LMU honored her by dedicating the Peg Dolan, RSHM Campus Ministry Center.
“The dedication of the campus ministry center will align her legacy as a truly transformative force at LMU and in all of our lives,” said Joe Knott ’74, LMU parent and supporter, who spoke about Sister Peg’s giving nature. More than 700 guests attended the celebration during Alumni Reunion Weekend.
Surrounded by her friends and family, Sister Peg accepted the honor in the name of all the women religious who have supported her through the years. “You have enriched me and allowed me to become the person I’ve been called to be, so thank you,” said Dolan.
“I am deeply grateful just to know that the mission of LMU will continue and that our students will grow in faith and come to know and love God,” said Dolan.
At the dedication ceremony, university officials announced that thanks to the generous support of donors, LMU has exceeded the first million dollar mark for the center. LMU has set a goal to raise $5 million to sustain and expand campus ministry programs as part of the university’s $380 million campaign, “Right Place. Right Time. The Campaign for LMU.”
“Peg has her footprint all over this community and in the lives of almost all of us here,” said Bob Kerslake ’58, chair of the fundraising committee, at a reception earlier that day. The program concluded with a blessing by President Robert B. Lawton, S.J., and Alfred Koppes, O.Carm, interim director of campus ministry.
