The NIH saw a record number of proposals submitted for its Challenge Grant Program, funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Three LMU faculty applied for Recovery Act funding through the NIH during the first round of 2009. They include Vince Coletta, professor of Physics for Testing Thinking in Physics; Joseph LaBrie, Associate Professor of Psychology for A Brief Live Interactive Assessment for Alcohol Use in High-Risk Social Networks and Social Norms and Skills - Training: Motivating Campus Change; and Hawley Almstedt, Assistant Professor in the Department of Natural Science for Osteogenic Potential of Whole Body Vibration Exercise.
