John Carfora and the Art of Funding

Event date: Monday, May 10, 2010, from 11:32 AM to 11:32 AM

John M. Carfora, Ed.D., Executive Director for Research Advancement and Compliance (Office for Research and Sponsored Projects), has co-authored a new book titled The Art of Funding and Implementing Ideas: A Guide to Proposal Development and Project Management (Sage Publications) with Arnold Shore, Associate Vice Provost for Research at Boston College.

This resource provides a step-by-step approach to turning a research idea into a proposal worthy of funding, demystifying the process as a result. The authors present a proven approach to the development of research ideas alongside a systematic treatment of proposals section-by-section and project management function-by-function.

Highly accessible, this book gives examples for each aspect of the proposal development and works through sketches of ideas to fully developed proposal sections.

"Writing the book with Arnie Shore was a lot of fun," says Carfora. "We were probably a rare example of the co-author model in that we never argued, and we created the narrative fairly quickly. We were always pretty much on the same page, so to speak, and our only differences were in matters of wording.

"We received lots of encouraging feedback while we were developing the book, which truly is generated for the reader. Hopefully it will lead to good things."
