Physics

National Science Foundation
Physics (PHY)
The NSF'S DIVISION OF PHYSICS (PHY) is the unit of the Federal Government with primary responsibility for the health of physics research and education in the nation's colleges and universities. The Division is comprised of disciplinary programs covering experimental research in the following major subfields of physics: Atomic, Molecular, Optical and Plasma Physics; Biological Physics; Elementary Particle Physics; Gravitational Physics; Nuclear Physics; Particle and Nuclear Astrophysics; Physics at the Information Frontier; and Education and Interdisciplinary Research and a Theoretical Physics program covering Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics, Elementary Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics, Cosmology and Astrophysics, and Mathematical Physics. Biological Physics, Gravitational Physics and Physics at the Information Frontier support both theoretical and experimental projects.

National Science Foundation
Research in Undergraduate Institutions (RUI)
The Research in Undergraduate Institutions (RUI) activity supports research by faculty members of predominantly undergraduate institutions through the funding of (1) individual and collaborative research projects, (2) the purchase of shared-use research instrumentation, and (3) Research Opportunity Awards for work with NSF-supported investigators at other institutions.

United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Environmental Education Grants Program
The goal of the ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION GRANTS PROGRAM,(EE), is to support projects that enhance the public’s awareness, knowledge, and skills to make informed and responsible decisions that affect environmental quality. To be considered EE, a project must be based on sound science and promote environmental stewardship.

Course Curriculum and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI)
The CCLI program seeks to improve the quality of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education for all undergraduate students. The program supports efforts to create new learning materials and teaching strategies, develop faculty expertise, implement education innovations, assess learning and evaluate innovations, and conduct research on STEM teaching and learning. The program supports three types of projects representing these different phases of development, ranging from small exploratory investigations to large, comprehensive projects.
