In observation of the 5, 10, and 15 year anniversaries of the Los Angeles Riots (April 29, 1992), the Center for the Study of Los Angeles sponsored a survey of Angelenos to measure their outlook on Los Angeles and whether they expected another riot to occur within the next five years. During the spring of 2012, for the 20th anniversary, approximately 1,600 LA residents were nterviewed in English, Spanish, and Korean to investigate the associations between growing demographic, economic, and ethnic relationship changes in Los Angeles, perceived riot activity, and impact of riot activity on quality of life in Los Angeles. For this year's Urban Lecture Series, the Center invited several of the declared candidates for mayor of LA in 2013 as well as other political leaders to discuss the riots and its impact on the city, and their visions for LA over the next twenty years.
