Melissa Woehrstein

Research Project Manager

Melissa Woehrstein is LCSLA's Research Project Manager. She is an alumnus from the University of California - Santa Barbara, having earned her B.A. in Sociology and Chicana/o Studies. In 2005, she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Melissa earned her M.A. in Liberal Studies at Dartmouth College. Using her background in Sociology and Chicana/o Studies, she focused on issues in education. Her thesis was titled, "Aiming for Education: The Role of Socioeconomic Status and Parenting Style on the Academic Achievement of Latinos." Melissa surveyed high school and college students at three northeastern schools on academics and family life. She analyzed their responses using statistical databases and presented her thesis to her committee in May 2009.

As a California native, Melissa looks forward to conducting research that will positively impact the Los Angeles community.
