Brianne Gilbert is the Senior Research Associate for the Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles. Since joining LCSLA, Brianne has worked on many studies involving voter surveys, public opinion research, and leadership analysis. Although her specialty is quantitative methodology and statistics, she oversees all phases of the research process, from grant writing and
design, to implementation and analysis, to dissemination. She has presented at several local and national conferences in sociology, anthropology, education, and public opinion research; and has served as a statistical consultant in a variety of fields such as sociology, anthropology, geology, and medicine.
Prior to joining the LCSLA staff team, Brianne provided research consultation to non-profit organizations, university departments, and
both undergraduate and graduate students. She was an Adjunct Instructor
and Teaching Assistant for research, statistics and social science
courses, as well as an SPSS Trainer at Florida International University. Brianne’s on-line introductory sociology
class was selected for national review by the Monterey Institute’s
On-Line Education Evaluation Project. She also has a background in
Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
In 2008, Brianne’s undergraduate sociology honors thesis was published
as a book,
Statistics in the Social Sciences: Inferential Statistics as
Rhetoric in Sociology. During her Master's program, she co-authored “Community Knowledge
and Attitudes toward Refugees and Asylees in Miami-Dade and Broward
Counties: An Analysis for International Rescue Committee.” The paper
won second place in the National Association of Practicing
Anthropologists Student Paper Competition, and was published in their
journal, NAPA Bulletin.
Brianne received her B.A. from Wittenberg University and her M.A. from Florida International University, both in sociology with emphases on methodology and statistics. She is a member of the
American Association of Public Opinion Research (AAPOR), the American Sociological Association (ASA), Alpha Kappa Delta International
Sociology Honor Society (AKD), and Phi Beta Kappa.
