Nature of Science, Technology and Mathematics

Courses in this area will engage students in the methods of inquiry used in science, engineering and/or mathematics. Through understanding the scientific method, students will develop the scientific literacy necessary for them to be knowledgeable citizens of the modern world, and better understand both the impact of science and technology on society, and the impact of society on the natural world. More specifically, students will

  • develop an appreciation for the role of science, technology and/or mathematics in society.
  • understand the scientific, technical and/or mathematical theories and reasoning skills required to understand our evolving conception of the living and physical world.
  • apply scientific, technical and/or mathematical theories and methods to real world problems.
  • value humanity’s connections to the physical environment, and its responsibilities towards the natural world.
