A Review from the CTE Director: Jackie Dewar

"I found this book full of practical suggestions for teaching -- each of which is grounded in what is now known about how students learn. In fact, I began using several of these during Spring 2007 just after reading about them!

The subtitle is Developing Habits of Learning with First Year College and University Students, but many of us will recognize some of our upper division students and even graduate students in his descriptions. I think this book is especially appropriate given the current reconsideration of our core curriculum. And, if we haven't managed to teach them how to think as first year students, we need to try again in the next 3+ years!
