Center for Ignatian Spirituality
Coming Events for Faculty and Staff 2011 - 2012
Come and See - Learn about personally adapted Ignatian spiritual exercises for faculty and staff
Just as some of those who wish to become more adept in their practices of physical exercises make use of "personal trainers," many faculty and staff at LMU choose to gain facility in reflecting upon their everyday work and life experiences by meeting with a guide, a member of the Center for Ignatian Spirituality staff. Growth in appreciation and conscious exercise of their gifts of body, mind, and spirit are some of the benefits.
If you wish to consider making Ignatian exercises, please call the Center for Ignatian Spirituality at 8-1806, or contact either Anne Hennessy, CSJ ahennes3@lmu, or Randy Roche, SJ rroche@lmu.edu .
For more information about Ignatian spiritual exercises on the web, see: Spiritual Exercises.
The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises for Busy Persons that usually takes 30+ weeks to complete, is another personally beneficial option that is available to faculty and staff at LMU.
A Weekend Retreat for Faculty and Staff, "As Ignatius Said" Loyola Marymount University and Loyola Law School February 10 -12, 2012
The retreat begins at 7:30pm on Friday evening and ends on Sunday with a noon luncheon, at the Mary and Joseph Retreat Center in Palos Verdes, and is designed for active members of LLS and LMU faculty and staff on Ignatian themes such as gratitude, desire, and service.
The Center for Ignatian Spirituality sponsors the retreat, together with the Center’s Advisory Board: Chairperson Ricardo Machón (Psychology), Stephanie August (Computer Science), Marīa Behm (Athletics), Philip Chmielewski (Engineering Ethics), Dorian Llywelyn (Catholic Studies), Michael Lotito (Facilities Maintenance), Cathy Machado (BCLA Assistant Dean), Dan Martin (Law School Faculty and Library), and Richard Plumb (Science and Engineering Dean.)
The retreat is funded by LMU, without cost to faculty, staff and spouses. Rooms are double, with bath, but individuals will have their own rooms unless they wish to share with someone they know.
Fr. Randy Roche, SJ and Sr. Anne Hennessy, CSJ will guide the weekend program.
Because of limited space, priority will be given to those who have not previously had the opportunity to participate in the annual retreat.

Following the Unfolding Path: Professional Renewal Through the Ignatian Tradition Tuesday, March 27, 2012, Convo Hour, 12:15 to 1:30pm, luncheon provided.
A Presentation for faculty and staff by LMU Associate Professor of Psychology Jennifer Abe
Upon returning to the classroom after five years as an administrator, Jennifer Abe found that her teaching and research were an entirely different experience than they were before. It wasn't that students had changed that much, but she was a different person, and hence a different teacher. An extended encounter with the Ignatian tradition had changed her, with unexpected consequences for her approach to her work and life. Ignatian principles can renew one's sense of vocation as a teacher, administrator, or member of the staff while providing greater freedom for exercising that calling at work and in the home.
To make a reservation, please call 338-1806, or send an email to ignacio@lmu.edu. We will send an email reminder, and the location, on the day before the luncheon presentation.
A Visit to the Ballona Wetlands Friday, 12:45pm - 4:00pm , Date to be determined, based on optimum viewing conditions - likely in March.
LMU faculty and staff are invited to a guided walk in the wetlands, with time for quiet reflection and prayer. A box lunch will be provided, and we will arrange for transportation.
Bring walking shoes and a hat, as well as binoculars, if you wish.
Our guides will be: John Dorsey, Associate Professor of Natural Science, and Pippa Drennan, Professor of Biology.
