When making a gift it is important to identify a need that resonates with you. The following sections provide a glimpse of LMU’s top goals and priorities that will enhance the student experience as well as increase our national visibility. Scholarships, research, technology and service are but a few of the areas where your support can make a difference.
"Right Place. Right Time. The Campaign for LMU" has five key goals. Combined, these areas reflect LMU’s vision for becoming one of the country’s truly distinguished value-driven institutions. The goals will help us as we prepare our student to be citizens and shapers of the world. Every gift regardless of size counts!
Enriching the campus environment - $124.2 million
LMU’s campaign will fund three major capital improvement projects. Scheduled for completion in 2009, the William H. Hannon Library occupies the highest priority for the university. Additionally, LMU plans to build a new research complex for the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering and an athletic administrative and training complex. All three facilities will offer state-of-the-art resources to enrich the lives of students, faculty and staff.
Attracting diverse and talented students - $77.3 million
LMU is committed to drawing an increasingly strong group of scholars and maintaining a diverse student body. Through merit and need-based scholarships, LMU is designating a portion of the campaign funds to assist deserving graduate and undergraduate students with tuition expenses.
Scholarships are just one way donors may opt to support this goal. More than 71 percent of current LMU students receive some type of financial assistance to pay for tuition. Better financial packages for students will create more opportunities for deserving scholars to achieve their career aspirations.
Recruiting and retaining distinguished faculty - $52.5 million
While LMU’s focus is to retain its current talented faculty, the university is also seeking out pre-eminent educators to build upon the work of their distinguished predecessors. Chairs in nanotechnology, lay pastoral leadership, entertainment law and interdisciplinary Los Angeles studies are among the numerous positions the university will create through the campaign.
Ensuring innovative academic programs - $79.4 million
LMU is already home to a number of distinctive and acclaimed programs such as the annual Bellarmine Forum and Partners in Los Angeles Catholic Education (PLACE). The forum provides an in-depth interdisciplinary investigation of current issues of interest to the entire Los Angeles community, while PLACE boasts a 91 percent retention rate for new teachers in inner-city schools compared to the national average of 50 percent.
An investment in developing more new programs such as these and in existing academic enterprises will increase LMU’s national prominence and foster innovation.
Providing for ongoing needs - $46.6 million
Unrestricted funding allows university leadership to address new challenges and opportunities as they arise, giving LMU the flexibility to effect change as well as adapt to it.
