WLC and LMU at 100
Human 100
May 2011 marked the beginning of the university’s year-long centennial celebration. LMU has seen amazing change and growth during its first 100 years. As the Women’s Leadership Council grows with the university, we look forward to being an active participant in the next 100 years. It is only fitting that our 2010-11 gift goes toward this important marker in LMU history. A momentous occasion such as this is cause to take a moment to reflect on accomplishments and delight in imagining the future. For more information about the centennial, including a full year of events, the oral history project, images from the archives and much more, please click here .

WLC @ NYC Launches

WLC at NYC Launches 2
In 2009, a small
group of alumnae and LMU friends who had moved to the East Coast gathered to launch
a local branch of WLC, to further advance the involvement and leadership of women from the university to our communities. WLC@NYC was born.

We are delighted to welcome dynamic women across the New York tri-state area to join our growing community that is leading philanthropy to leverage the power of women in supporting and celebrating Loyola Marymount University. Click here to view event photos and to read about the first gathering.

WLC 2011 Lecture Series: What Would Mary Do?
WLC lecture series
The co-chairs of the WLC talked last summer about presenting a lecture series to their membership, themed on an article they read last year in Newsweek, titled "What Would Mary Do?" Inspired, they launched the 2011 series under the same name.

First Lecture: "Mary, Mother of Jesus: A dialogue between Muslims and Christians." LMU Professor Amir Hussain presented the first lecture in April with more than 60 people attendance. They could have listened to him talk for another hour! Click here to see event photos.

Second lecture: "Mary in Contemporary Imagination." David A. Sánchez and Tracy Tiemeier (both assistant professors in theological studies) will present on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 at LMU's Ahmanson Auditorium. Click here to register for the presentation and reception.

Third lecture: "Visions of Mary: Old and New." Dorian Llywelyn, S.J., associate professor of theological studies, and Anna Harrison, assistant professor of theological studies, will present the third and final presentation in the series on Saturday, Nov. 12. The presentation will focus on tracing the origins of spirituality and women of faith, about Mary in women's experience throughout history. More information coming soon.
