Opportunities for Involvement

Freshman Family Send-Offs (mid-August)
Our send-off celebrations, held regionally and hosted by LMU families, are a great way to gather freshmen and their families. It's a chance to meet other families, share experiences, and find ways to continue to stay connected with your new LMU friends.

Welcome Weekend (August 29-30)
After parents move their students into the residence halls on move-in day, they can take a break and give their students some time to unpack, settle in, and meet their roommates and neighbors. Members of the Parent Council and Parent Ambassadors support this event by answering last-minute questions at the Parents Table during the information fair or by serving on a panel during one of the general sessions.

Regional Parent Receptions (fall)
In an effort to continue to foster the friendships made we invite LMU parents and friends to attend events in their local areas throughout the Fall semester.  Identifying local venues to attract attendees, volunteers host parent networking events in their home towns.

Family Weekend (February)
Each President’s Day Holiday Weekend, parents are invited to campus for a weekend of activities and programs, including an NCAA basketball game.
A few weeks after classes start in the spring semester, parents are invited to campus to experience some of the educational opportunities, activities, and pageantry of the University. Activities include special workshops for parents, a chance to visit the University's galleries and museums, and the simple pleasure of a wonderful day on campus with your student.

Preview Day (April 11)
In mid-April, admitted students are invited back to campus one last time before deciding where to go to school in the upcoming year. Students again have the opportunity to meet with faculty, staff, and students, as well as sit in on presentations about each of the academic programs offered at LMU. By welcoming the prospective freshman parents and participating on a question and answer panel our Parent volunteers truly add a special perspective to the day’s activities.

Freshman Orientations (June)
During the two-day orientation sessions that take place in June the Parent Council hosts a wine and cheese reception as a way to meet and mingle with new parents and students.  Following the receptions is a dinner planned on campus which is another opportunity for current parents to meet and visit with the newest members of the LMU community.
