About

Through small seminar-style classes with LMU's best professors, student-created and student-led publications and programs, Honors housing, special events and speakers, and independent research opportunities, every student in our University Honors Program is encouraged to become a first rate scholar and citizen of the greater intellectual conversation. These are the kinds of experiences that make you more attractive for prestigious national and international scholarships, admission to graduate school, or entrance into the public sector.

Honors classes are not "harder" and "more" of what everyone else is doing. They are an exciting and qualitatively different intellectual experience. The rewards are great: high academic achievement; an Honors degree for your transcript; public recognition at commencement; and the satisfaction that you excelled in one of the most challenging academic programs LMU has to offer.

Mission Statement
The University Honors Program aligns itself with the Loyola Marymount University Mission Statement by:
  • Pursuing academic excellence, measured not only in terms of grades but also intellectual adventure and independent research.
  • Educating the whole person by exposing all students to a plurality of approaches and techniques in the context of meaningful interactions with fellow students and professors. Honors students are expected to integrate knowledge with experience and produce ideas that address the complexities of society.
  • Serving the faith and promoting justice because intelligence is a gift to the world, not to be enjoyed solely by its “possessor,” but put to work in order to solve the problems humanity faces because service to others is the ultimate goal of all intellectual pursuits.
