STUDENT ARTIST AWARD COMPETITION

We are pleased to announce the three talented Honors Student Artists, whose original artwork is now featured in the Clint Albertson, S.J., Honors Student Commons. in University Hall 4442.

Congratulations goes to: Jacob Braafladt, Nick Fadely and Melissa Sweet.  If you have not done so already, please visit the Honors Commons, located near the end of the 4th floor hallway in University Hall.  There are some very comfortable chairs, a couch, a refrigerator, water, coffee, tea, four computers and a printer. This is a great place to study and to hang out with each other.

HONORS SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWS

We honor outstanding independent research by announcing the 2009 Honors Summer Research Fellows.  Awarded with a $5,000 grant, the Honors Research Fellows will go off this summer to embark on their wonderful projects.

Two of the awards have been made possible by a generous donation from Ned and Susan Greene.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the two 2009 Greene Fellows.

They are:

Casey Valerie Linsey
Casey will travel to the Philippines and Washington DC to conduct research on the human aspect of the brain drain phenomenon, which is about the emigration of thousands of highly educated Filipinos and a corresponding internship to research policies affecting this phenomenon

James Curtis Clements
James will travel to La Libertad, El Salvador with Engineers without Borders to conduct a two-phase project, which begins with a site visit and will follow with the construction to make freshwater more accessible for the community year round, and provide water for the community during the dry season.

The remaining Honors Summer Research Fellowship Awards are named after the founder of the LMU Honors program, Fr. Clint Albertson, SJ.

We are pleased to announce the 2009 Albertson Fellows.

They are:

Heather Mae Moline
Heather will travel to Beirut, Lebanon for an Immersion in cultural and political activities in Lebanon where she will also engage is 15 hours/week of intensive classroom instruction in Modern Standard Arabic.

Afternoons will be spent with individual families teaching methods of preventative health care. Both morning and afternoon projects aim at improving the quality of life for the materially poor.
