AJCU
The University Honors Program at Loyola Marymount University gladly hosted the first annual Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities Honors Conference from 9-12 February 2006. The goal of the weekend was to gather Honors Directors, Faculty, Staff and Students from various Jesuit Institutions across the country for a weekend of presentations, discussions, and social opportunities.
The following Universities were represented:
Loyola Marymount University; Fordham University; Loyola College in Maryland; University of Scranton; St. Joseph’s University; Santa Clara University; Regis University; University of Detroit Mercy; Rockhurst University; John Carroll University; and Le Moyne College.
Each Honors Program was given an opportunity to present on their history, curriculum, including strengths and challenges. All of the programs, however, focussed on how an Honors Programs at a Jesuit Catholic institutions are unique. We discussed recruiting, retention, diversity, scholarships, theses, Honors' role in the intellectual life of the university, student issues, mentorships, housing, and the future of Honors education. We also visited the LMU Archaeology Lab and the LMU Special Collections where guests encountered ancient artifacts and rare books, including first edition Shakespeare folios.
The 2nd Annual AJCU Honors Conference was held at at Fordham University in New York in February 2007.
The 3rd Annual AJCU Conference was held at Regis University in Denver in February 2008.
The 4th Annual AJCU Conference was held at Santa Clara University in California in February 2009.
