Estudios pastorales en español
El programa certificado de Estudios Pastorales en Español ofrece momentos de reflexión y formación para el ministerio pastoral. Es para personas que llevan algunos años de servicio activo en su parroquia, diócesis, o movimiento apostólico. El nivel de instrucción es superior a lo que normalmente se les puede ofrecer en los institutos diocesanos, talleres parroquiales, y congresos de educación religiosa. Los maestros son personas sumamente calificadas por su preparación y experiencia en sus respectivas areas de trabajo; son los mejores preparados de los Estados Unidos y conocen la realidad de la Iglesia hispana.
El programa ofrece un estudio intensivo sobre el Concilio Vaticano II y el impacto del Concilio sobre la pastoral hispana en Estados Unidos. Recordando las palabras del Beato Juan XXIII, un enfoque sobre el Concilio nos permitirá "mirar lejos" - hacia atrás, a la historia de la Iglesia, pasando por su situación pastoral actual, hacia un caminar en el Espíritu hacia el porvenir. Específicamente entenderemos los desafíos de la pastoral hispana a la luz de la vivencia de la Iglesia después del Concilio.
El énfasis está en profundización de la Escritura y tradición católica, especialmente en aspectos relacionados con la acción práctica y pastoral; fundamentación teológica; y metodología para reflexionar sobre la acción pastoral.

Petra Alexander, L.C.C., MA is Director of the Office of Hispanic Affairs for the Archdiocese of San Bernardino, California.
María Teresa Basso, MA
Padre Allan Deck, S.J., PhD a B.A. in Philosophy at Saint Louis University in 1969 and a Ph.D. in Spanish and Latin American Studies at the same institution in 1973. He has been president and executive director, Loyola Institute for Spirituality, since 1997 and superior of the Jesuit Community of Orange County, CA, since 2000. Father Deck was First Diocesan Director of Hispanic Ministry, Diocese of Orange, 1979-1985, and was a consultant to the U.S. Bishops' Committee on Hispanic Affairs from 1991-94. Father Deck's 1989 book The Second Wave: Hispanic Ministry and the Evangelization of Cultures was winner of the Best Professional Book Award by the Catholic Press Association. The priest was co-editor, with Jay P. Dolan, of Hispanic Catholic Culture in the United States: Issues and Concerns, 1994, and co-editor, with Virgil P. Elizondo and Timothy Matovina of The Treasure of Guadalupe, 2006.
Robert Hurteau, PhD is the Director of LMU’s Center for Religion and Spirituality and a former missionary. He holds a doctorate in Pastoral Counseling/Practical Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Carlos Obando, MA was born in Costa Rica but has lived and worked in the United States for the past 42 years. For the last 30 years he has been involved in pastoral ministry with Hispanic Catholics in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Diocese of Orange, working as a teacher and a spiritual director. A graduate of the Pastoral Care and Estudios Pastorales Certificate Programs at LMU, Carlos also attended Cal State Los Angeles and recently completed the Master of Arts in Pastoral Theology program at LMU. He has been married for 35 years and has three adult children.
Manuel Vásquez, PhD is associate professor of Religion at the University of Florida. His dissertation and first book, The Brazilian Popular Church and the Crisis of Modernity explored the effects of democratization and late capitalism on grassroots progressive Catholicism in Brazil. The book received the 1998 award for excellence in the analytical-descriptive study of religion from the American Academy of Religion. He is also a member of the planning committee for "The Religious Lives of Migrant Minorities," a project based at the Social Science Research Council which includes field research among Christians, Muslims, and Hindus in London, Johannesburg, and Kuala Lumpur. Vásquez is completing a book entitled Religion Rematerialized: Embodiment, Practice, and Emplacement, under contract with Oxford University Press.
