Prime of Life Yoga

cp_cert_yogaprimeMidlife in America is changing.  Men and women between the ages of “40 something” to “70 something” are more active and adventuresome than ever before. They represent the largest population growth segment for Yoga. This program offers an overall lifestyle approach to Yoga that includes asana that is accommodating, covering everyday biomechanics, management of common aches and pains and weight reduction with Yoga, gait training, stress reduction and sleeping tips. A balanced presentation of an online course and a four-day intensive. For Yoga teachers and students.

The Certificate Program in Prime of Life Yoga is a one-semeter specialty program for Yoga teachers and dedicated students focusing on Yoga for midlife and beyond. The concept is a partial home study of 25 hours combined with a 25-hour four day intensive course. Yoga Alliance has agreed to count this as continuing education credit for their program. Upon completion of the 50 hours of study, participants will receive a certificate in Prime of Life Yoga.

This certificate program runs one semester in the Spring.  Online home study is done prior to the class meetings and at the individual's own pace.  Classes meet for six hours Thursday through Sunday.  Schedules and tuition are subject to change.  Additional fees may be incurred for books and materials.  Please check the Web site for updates.  Submit an enrollment form for the program via direct mail, or contact LMU Extension at 310.338.1971 to handle your enrollment over the phone.  You can also register for courses individually online.

INSTRUCTORS

blog_payneLarry Payne, PhD is an internationally respected yoga teacher and back specialist. The L.A. Times named Dr. Payne “One of America's most respected Yoga teachers.” He is co-author of Yoga Therapy Rx, The Business of Teaching Yoga and the best-selling book, Yoga for Dummies. Dr. Payne is founding president of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, founder of the corporate Yoga program at the J. Paul Getty Museum, the first Yoga teacher to offer Yoga classes at the World Economic Forum, co-founder of the yoga curriculum at The UCLA School of Medicine, and the founding director of the Yoga therapy certification program at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
 
Robert Birnberg, CYT has studied with Kausthub Desikachar internationally and has traveled numerous times to the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) in Southern India. Robert trains Yoga therapists, conducts seminars and specializes in relationship guidance and addictive/compulsive disorders.

blog_goldmanEden Goldman, DC, CYT, E-RYT is a wellness chiropractor, certified yoga therapist and musculoskeletal rehabilitation specialist at LA Sports and Spine in Los Angeles, CA. Raised in the Kriya Yoga tradition of Paramahansa Yogananda, Dr. Goldman specializes in the integration of classical eastern therapeutics with modern advancements in western biomechanical technology and athletic training.  Founder of Karmapalooza Yoga Productions, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, he has been a guest faculty member in the Yoga Therapy RX program at LMU as well as in the Sports Medicine Department at his alma mater, Southern California University of Health Sciences. In 2009, Dr. Goldman was the youngest person ever appointed to a position by the Board of the International Association of Yoga Therapists when he served on their Educational Standards Committee. He has been featured in many other prominent publications including Yoga Journal, Yoga Mind Body Spirit, The New Times and LA Yoga Magazine. His first book, Yoga Therapy: The Ultimate Guide to Yoga for Health and Wellness, co-authored with Larry Payne, PhD and Terra Gold, LAc is due out in late 2010.
