About the Center
Extending the mission of Loyola Marymount University to the diverse constituencies of Los Angeles and beyond, the purpose of the Center for Religion and Spirituality is to provide educational opportunities for adult learners, which strengthen their religious and spiritual formation as ministers, educators, and leaders committed to service and the pursuit of justice in their own communities.
Established as the Center for Pastoral Studies in 1977, the Center for Religion and Spirituality is one of Loyola Marymount’s three interdisciplinary centers and an embodiment of the university’s commitment to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, neighboring dioceses, and communities of faith throughout the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
A unit within LMU Extension, the Center carries out its purpose in three ways: Bilingual (English and Spanish) continuing and professional education in theology, ministry and spirituality with an emphasis on pastoral leadership; research in pastoral theology with an emphasis in intercultural and interreligious dynamics; and institutional outreach to individual parishes, religious institutions and faith-based organizations.
