WHAT IS THE CERTIFICATE?

This unique certificate is intended to represent extensive knowledge in programmatic, political, and instructional issues in working with English Learners. CEEL is the first to provide educators working with language minority students the opportunity to earn a Certificate for Leadership in Biliteracy for English Learners through LMU Extension. The three-course program of study is offered through a combination of on-site, online and video-telecast meetings. Each course offers participants the opportunity to earn 4 semester units of continuing education credit.  Click here to download course information.

HOW MANY CLASSES ARE REQUIRED?

Successful completion of three, four (4) unit courses with a grade of “B” or better is required to earn the Certificate. Participants can earn a total of up to 12 continuing education units.

WHAT IS THE COST PER COURSE?

PROMISE Participants: $300 (Scholarship Rate for PROMISE* schools only)

All Other Participants: $395

HOW DO I ENROLL?

Course Registration is available by calling (310) 338-1971 or by going to extension.lmu.edu. Registration will be limited to a maximum of 40 participants and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

WHERE WILL THE COURSES BE OFFERED?

For PROMISE Initiative partner schools video-telecast sessions will be held at each of the county offices on designated days. Baldwin Park Unified PROMISE participants will attend video-telecast sessions at the District Office. All other participants will attend face-to-face sessions at Loyola Marymount University.

Each course includes:

· Four (4) video-telecast sessions – Thursdays from 4:00–7:00pm

· Four (4) on-line sessions via Blackboard (Participants must have internet access)

· Twelve (12) hours of professional development time (completed within the last 3 years at participant’s own school site or district and related to the course topic).

*The Certificate for Leadership for English Learners is offered in collaboration with the PROMISE Initiative (www.promise-initiative.org). Priority enrollment will be given to participants from PROMISE Initiative schools.
