CLASSIFICATION OF LMU COURSES

ADMISSION TO ANY COURSE IN LMU EXTENSION DOES NOT CONSTITUTE ADMISSION TO UNDERGRADUATE OR GRADUATE PROGRAMS AT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY.

Professional Development Courses:

These courses are offered under a departmental rubric and are numbered 800 through 9999, e.g. EDUX810. These courses carry semester units of extension credit and are designed for those who wish to meet license, in-service, and/or credential requirements, as well as for those who wish to complete an LMU professional certificate program. License and credential courses assume the appropriate level of education. Courses may be offered for a grade, on a Credit/No Credit basis, or for Audit.

Continuing Education Courses:

These are courses with academic content falling outside the normal credit granting range of classes. Courses are listed under the rubric CNTX with numbers from 800 through 999, e.g. CNTX850. Credit is reported as semester hours, with each semester hour representing the equivalent of ten Continuing Education contact hours. CNTX courses are offered on a Credit/No Credit basis only.

Personal Enrichment Activities:

These are activities designed to develop or express interest, skills, or abilities other than those noted above. Courses are listed under the rubric PRNX with numbers 800 though 999, e.g. PRNX850. These courses are not offered for a grade and a transcript is not issued. A record of attendance may be requested from the Office of the Registrar after completion.

University Audit Courses:

A number of undergraduate and graduate level courses are available to LMU Extension students for Audit only. Students taking a course for audit are not expected to submit papers or other class work and receive no grade or credit for the course. Auditors merely observe the class. Regular attendance, however, is expected and in non-lecture courses participation is required.

Certificate Programs:

Upon successful completion of the required courses, students must file a Petition for Graduation Form. Forms are available at: www.lmu.edu/extension.
