Extension and Community

LMU Extension: a storied history of serving lifelong learners and the Los Angeles community

As Loyola Marymount University celebrates 100 years of educating college students in Los Angeles, LMU Extension is chalking up almost as many decades of working with industry and the community to provide education and service to adults.

To quote LMU's Mission Statement, "the education of the whole person comes to fruition not simply in personal integration but in a sense of one’s place in the global village." Key to this is educational opportunities for people of all backgrounds and ages, and being of service to a larger community beyond the campus.

These roles are ideally suited to LMU Extension, which offers low-cost classes, courses that specialize in topics of interest to underrepresented and minority audiences, ways for teachers especially in challenged schools to seek improvement that will benefit their classrooms, and coursework in a range of topics including career development, skills enhancement, spirituality, self-enrichment and everyday life skills in a variety of modalities including online learning accessible to all regardless of location or schedule.

In addition to offerings in spirituality, LMU Extension focuses on community and building the whole person with its courses on creating a successful nonprofit, counseling skills and certification for those in helping professions, a variety of languages, leadership training, the arts, and health care. Course are open to all and scholarships are available for a wide variety of topics.
