Location

Situated on the River Tiber, Rome was once the capital of an empire that stretched from Britain to North Africa and the Middle East. Following the Counter-Reformation in the 16th century, it became once again a great cultural capital, renowned for the magnificence of its art and architecture. The churches, piazzas, fountains, monuments and palaces of Rome’s historical center offer a breathtaking surprise at the turn of almost every corner and provide a fascinating backdrop to the lively outdoor markets and stylish shopping areas of the contemporary city.
