Program Description

The New Zealand Study program is based in Auckland and consists of an intensive, four-week cross-cultural experience in one of the world’s most beautiful countries. With a strong emphasis on the indigenous Maori culture, the program introduces students to the multi-faceted history and contemporary context of this exciting country. The program includes a multi-day excursion in Wellington, the capital, as well as weekend excursions to Rotorua, the Bay of Islands, and this year an excursion to Mount Taranaki and the Wanganui River. There is a possible excursion to Gisborne, as well.

Location

Classes are held on the Auckland satellite campus of Otago University. The facilities are housed in a beautiful, new building with state-of-the-art classrooms that are only a short walk from the hotel where LMU students stay. The Loyola Marymount University program has its own classroom, including generous and easy access to the Internet. Not far is the University of Auckland, where students can access library facilities, as well as participate in student life in cafes, theater and musical productions, as available. The program is housed near the main city center where shopping, entertainment and outdoor markets are all available. The Auckland bus and train system is famously efficient, allowing students to explore the city and its neighborhoods, including a world-class museum and zoo. Students will also explore of the famous New Zealand countryside.
