Spain: San Sebastian

Program Description

 

Students from LMU can participate in the exchange programme of the University of Deusto in the campus of San Sebastián for one or two semesters following multiple courses offered by the different Schools and Departments. Apart from the courses related to the students´ majors, our aim is to offer exchange students the possibility to learn about Spanish and Basque culture and to improve their Spanish language skills following courses designed for them.

San Sebastian is the capital city of the province of Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country near the border with France. San Sebastian’s picturesque coastline makes it a popular beach resort.  It has long been an attractive destination for those who want to escape the overpowering heat of the interior during the summer months.  The city spreads around the famous La Concha beach which is packed in July and August with a huge number of visitors.  The other beaches of Playa de Ondarreta to the west and Playa de la Zurriola to the east are also popular and attract a lot of surfers looking to ride the Atlantic waves.  Inland are the beautiful green mountain landscapes of Guipuzcoa of which San Sebastian is the provincial capital. 

You'll find more Michelin star restaurants in San Sebastian than in any other city in Spain.  You can also sample some excellent tapas in the many bars of the old quarter (La Parte Vieja) where you simply take a plate from the waiter and select whatever you like from the vast selection of freshly prepared dishes laid out on the buffet.  Throughout the whole year, exchange students can enjoy all that is offered by the city’s unquestionable natural beauty, the hospitality of its people and the delicious food.
