Mexico: Mexico City

Mexico City bldg

Program Description

In the Spanish Language and Latin American Culture Program, students will have the opportunity to improve and polish their Spanish language skills, advance academically in their area of study, and immerse themselves in Mexican culture. Also, if a student has strong Spanish skills, they may take classes in regular academic departments.

Location

Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, is approximately 2,280 meters (7,500 feet) above sea level and has a temperate climate with cool nights and mornings. However during the summer months it often rains throughout the day. The Federal District and some surrounding metropolitan areas have a population of about 20 million.  Magnificent examples of the remains of the great Aztec Empire, the splendor of the colonial period and the invigorating cosmopolitan vitality of modern Mexico are all parts of this exciting metropolis, which is the political, industrial, cultural, and intellectual center of Mexico.

There is a rich mix of cultural offerings and opportunities.  Leading artists, renowned speakers, national and world leaders, sports figures and art exhibits regularly visit the campus.  Students are encouraged to participate in art and sports programs.  Temporary art exhibits are housed in the university’s newest building, a seven-story tower connected to the old library, which houses many collections of antique and rare books.
