Cardiff University is one of the UK’s most popular and is an internationally recognized centre for teaching and research. It was founded in 1883 and is based in the very centre of Cardiff, the capital of Wales. At the centre of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, Cardiff is only 2 hours from London by train.
Cardiff is often described as "the perfect student city" because it is an exciting capital city but also safe and affordable. Cardiff is a small city located in South Wales, with a population of about 320,000 people. Approximately 20% of the population are students, which makes it safe, friendly and affordable. Cardiff however is also a capital city with all the culture, sports, shopping, entertainment and atmosphere you would expect of a modern European metropolis. This means you get a small cheap city you can easily walk around, but also an exciting city where there is always something to do.
Wales is a unique and friendly country, with some of the most spectacular natural scenery in the world and a rich historical tradition to explore. Whether you like to hunt around ruins of medieval fortresses, climb craggy mountains or build sandcastles on clean beaches, you will find that Wales provides you with the opportunity. For visitors, Wales' great advantage is its size. You can be at the top of a mountain and 45 minutes later leaping off a cliff, mountain biking through an old forest or visiting the remains of an ancient civilization. Wales however is more than just history and adventure sports. The Welsh people have a strong and completely unique culture, which includes literature, music, sport, food and the Welsh language.
