Institute for Leadership Studies
Housed in the Department of Political Science, LMU’s Institute for Leadership Studies teaches students about leadership, while preparing them for leadership positions. This involves a combination of academic and experiential activities. Education about leadership takes place essentially in the classroom where the students are provided with an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural knowledge of the theories and concepts of leadership and followership. Education for leadership involves hands-on experiential learning, which gives students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting through internships, mentoring relationships, study abroad programs and other services. The Center attempts to give students the tools that will empower them to serve their communities with skill and compassion.
