How Do I...
How do I know who my advisor is?
Each student at LMU is assigned an advisor within their respective college or school. It is recommended that you meet with your faculty advisor prior to registering for each semester and any time you have questions regarding degree requirements and/or if you need more information about your major. To find out who your assigned advisor is, you need to check PROWL from your mylmu account. Once on PROWL, you can find your advisor in a few places:
- Under the “Student Services” tab, click on the “registration section. From there, click on “Check your Registration Status.” Your primary advisor will be listed and you can email your advisor directly from PROWL.
- In your CAPP report, there is a section called “Degree Evaluation Record,” scroll down underneath “Curriculum Information” to find your faculty advisor’s name.
To schedule an appointment with your advisor, the best method of reaching them is via email or phone. Within PROWL there is an icon to email your advisor directly, or you can find their contact information in the LMU online directory.
How do I know what the graduation requirements are?
All pertinent information about program and degree requirements can be found in the LMU Bulletin. The Bulletin is published by the Registrar’s Office and is located here.
It is recommended that students become familiar with the LMU Bulletin. Begin by focusing on the Core Curriculum requirements based on your college and then locate the specific requirements for your major and minor (if applicable).
How do I know where to find academic forms?
The LMU Registrar’s office manages the administration of official paperwork and student records. Common forms include the Change of Program, CAPP adjustments, incomplete grades, transfer course approvals and general petitions. Downloadable forms can be found on the Registrar’s Office website.
How do I switch majors?
To be accepted into any major, you must be in good academic standing (previous term and cumulative GPA's 2.0 or above). Certain majors require the completion of specific pre-requisite courses and/or an application to be considered for entrance into the college. Refer to the University Bulletin and meet with the appropriate people in the college and department for specific requirements.
The general steps for declaring a major include:
- Student meets with the Chair or Director of the intended major to confirm their choice and clarify requirements. The current 2011-12 Chairpersons and Program Directors List can be found here.
- Fill out the “Change of Program Petition” to officially add a major, second major, minor, or concentration option. You must be accepted into the new program by meeting with and obtaining the signatures from the appropriate chair and Associate Dean's Office.
- Once the form is complete, submit the form to the Office of the Registrar in Von der Ahe 150. Be sure to check your PROWL to verify that the new major is listed and that you have been assigned an advisor in the college.
How do I explore majors?
Among many of the services offered by Career Development Services, the online feature, "What can I do with," offers a wealth of information about the possible majors one can pursue at LMU.
Students who are undeclared or considering a change of majors may also set an appointment with the University Advisor to discuss your academic plans.
How do I get my advising questions answered?
