Peer tutoring

Need help writing a paper? Having trouble grasping the concepts in chemistry? The LRC offers free peer tutoring in more than 180 academic courses as well as in writing. Call the receptionist to make weekly or occasional appointments. (This service is offered to all LMU students. We just don’t want you to forget about it!)

Success strategies

Professional staff offer individual workshops tailored to your specific needs. Among our selections are effective reading strategies; better note-taking; test-taking strategies; time management; oral presentations, and more. To make appointments, call the receptionist at 310-338-2847.

Conversation partners

Ever wonder how an American would say it? Want to know why people keep using that word that isn’t in the dictionary? A peer tutor can answer these and other questions.  To make  appointments, call the receptionist at 310-338-2847.

Conversation group

Global Connections, a weekly conversation group for international students, is offered in the fall and spring semesters. LMU undergraduate and graduate students join to increase their English fluency, gain confidence in their speech, practice English in a fun and relaxed setting, and meet and socialize with fellow LMU students. No appointments are necessary and attendance is not taken--come when you can. Click here for this semester's schedule.  For more information, contact Writing and ESL Specialist Maggie Catalfamo at 310-338-7698 or at maggie.catalfamo@lmu.edu

Movie night

In a monthly movie night, international students gather to watch and discuss films that are reflective of American culture.  For more information, contact Writing and ESL Specialist Maggie Catalfamo at 310-338-7698 or at maggie.catalfamo@lmu.edu

ENGL 100

What is considered “good writing” varies from one culture to another. In English 100, a 3-unit course for non-native speakers of English, we study and practice academic writing in English. To register for this class, click here. For more information, contact Writing and ESL Specialist Maggie Catalfamo at 310-338-7698 or at maggie.catalfamo@lmu.edu
