Lower Division Curriculum for the Bachelor of Arts in the following majors:

University Core Requirements
The Classics and Archaeology Department recommends that students take the following course in fulfillment of the University Core requirement in Western Civilizations:

Lower Division Major Requirements
  • Students following the lower division curriculum for the major in Classical Civilizations take 9 semester hours in classical literature in translation at LMU.
  • Students following the lower division curriculum for the major in Classics take 9 semester hours in Classical Greek and 9 semester hours in Latin.
  • Students following the lower division curriculum for the major in Greek take 9 semester hours of Classical Greek grammar sufficient to attain a level of proficiency that allows the student to translate unedited passages of poetry and prose.
  • Students following the lower division curriculum for the major in Latin take 9 semester hours of Latin grammar sufficient to attain a level of proficiency that allows the student to translate unedited passages of poetry and prose.
The following courses will fulfill 6 of the 9 semester hours in Latin requried for the Classics and Latin majors:
