Leave of Absence/Withdrawal

A Leave of Absence is a temporary break in a current student's enrollment at LMU. A leave of absence may be from a single semester or may extend for up to two years. In order for a Leave of Absence to be granted, the student must withdraw (using PROWL) from all courses in a term prior to the last day to withdraw as published in the Schedule of Classes and University Bulletin. The student will then receive grades of W in each dropped course.

A student may not take a Leave from the term if application is made after the stated deadline for withdrawal from classes. A student who stops attendance after the deadline to withdraw from classes will receive a grade assigned by the instructor and may include a grade of F in each course.

If a student decides to take a Leave of Absence, but has the intention of resuming studies at LMU within a two year period, the student should fill out the Leave of Absence online form below. The student will be considered to be on an approved leave of absence for up to two years unless the student gives written notice to the Office of the Registrar that he/she is withdrawing from the University. If the student does not return within the two year period, the student must first obtain the permission of the Dean’s Office to re-apply.

A student may take a Leave of Absence in a subsequent semester at any time before the stated deadline for that semester.

A Withdrawal from the University is the termination of the academic program and course of study and the rights and privileges offered to currently enrolled students. In order for a Withdrawal from the University to be granted, the student must withdraw (using PROWL) from all courses in a term prior to the last day to withdraw as published in the Schedule of Classes and University Bulletin. If a withdrawal is submitted by the deadline in a term, the student will then receive grades of W in each dropped course.
