Commencement
How many Commencement ceremonies does LMU have?
Only one, which is always at the end of the Spring term. Although LMU awards degrees at the end of the Spring, Summer, and Fall terms, these are all celebrated at the one Commencement.
Can I walk even though I haven't completed all my coursework?
A qualified Yes. To participate, you need to qualify according to the one of the following criteria.
May I participate in Commencement if I will not finish my degree until the upcoming August or December term?
Yes, but you must file for either the Summer or Fall semester and indicate that you will be participating in the Spring Commencement. In order to qualify, a Bachelor's candidate must have 12 or fewer semester hours remaining and a Master's candidate must have 6 or fewer semester hours remaining.
May I participate in Commencement if I finished my degree the previous August or December term?
Yes, but only if you did not participate in the previous year's ceremony. A student may participate in commencement only once per degree.
I participate in Commencement again if my degree was cancelled after I walked the first time?
No. A student may participate in commencement only once per degree.
What qualifies Doctoral candidates to participate in Commencement?
They must have successfully defended their dissertations and have applied for graduation in the term.
How many people may I invite and do my guests need tickets?
LMU's Commencement ceremonies are open to the public and tickets are not required. There is no guest limit.
