University Hall Atrium Frequently Asked Questions

Can I plan an event in University Hall's Atrium?

Yes. Events may take place on the ground floor of University Hall's Atrium during designated times. Pre-approved event layouts have been designed in conjunction with the Fire Marshall by Conference and Event Services.

What are the designated times?

After 5:15pm on normal work days, during convocation hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and on weekends.

Are there any exceptions to the time restrictions?

Yes. Generally, there are two exceptions. 1) If the event benefits the entire University community or an entire group within the community (such as all Faculty/Staff), 2) or event is hosted inside Roski or Ahmanson Auditorium during the course of the day, certain event layouts may be approved in the immediate vicitinty of the location. Amplification for events during normal business hours must also be approved by the Academic Vice President or the President's Office.

Are there any fees related to these events?

Yes. In some cases, additional staff members may be needed to support your event. This will depend on individual needs of your event (size, duration, food, alcohol, power needs). Additional security, custodial, or building support staff may be required. Estimates for your proposed event will be made available.

Will I need to hire a Fire Inspector for my event in the Atrium?

Though this is not common, certain events may also be asked to contract a Fire Life Safety Inspector for the duration of the event. The cost is $55 per hour.

How can I check to see if the Atrium is available on a certain date?

It's easy. Just browse the on-line calendar http://calendar.lmu.edu to see events, spaces and more. To read more about how to navigate the on-line calendar please click guide .

How can I petition for an event layout to be reviewed and possibly added to the existing list?

All petitions must be submitted to Martin Alvarez, Conference + Event Services, via email: malvarez@lmu.edu. Proposed event layouts must be submitted electronically as no hand drawings will be accepted for review. The event layout review process typically will take about 5-6 weeks. Please plan ahead.
