De Colores Trip for Faculty & Staff, June 7-9, 2013

DC

Join other faculty and staff on a De Colores Service Immersion Trip to Tijuana, Mexico, leaving at 3 pm on Friday, June 7 and returning around 6 pm on Sunday, June 9, 2013. This is a great opportunity to put a human face to the immigration issue and experience the challenges and graces on the Mexican side of the border.

AGENDA FOR THE WEEKEND
We will follow an agenda similar to the student trips:

Friday:  Arrive in San Diego for opening activities and dinner.  We will stay at a chain hotel with two people per room.

Saturday:
We will cross the border into Tijuana, Mexico and do some construction work on a small health clinic and school. We will have lunch with the community.

In the afternoon, we will be at a hospitality house for those recently deported.  We will eat dinner with them.

In the evening, we will do some arts and crafts with the El Florido community children. We will stay in a simple hotel in Tijuana for the night with two people per room.

DC.2

Sunday:  We will spend the morning at an orphanage and have a Catholic Mass there. We will have lunch and then head to Friendship Park (see links for a recent video and articles from the last student trip below). We hope to return to LMU by 6 pm on Sunday.

COST:  $40 per person, includes all transportation, meals, and lodging.  Payment will be due within 3 days of receiving confirmation that you are registered for the trip. That payment can be delivered to Mike Shawver in the Center for Ignatian Spirituality.

REGISTRATION:  The trip is limited to the first 15 faculty and staff to register on a first come, first served basis. Once we have 15, all others will be put on a wait list. The deadline to register is Friday, May 24, 2013.
