About Loyola Marymount University
Located between the Pacific Ocean and downtown Los Angeles, LMU is a Catholic university offering a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees with a strong base in the liberal arts. It emphasizes the Jesuit and Marymount educational traditions: the education of the whole person -- mind, body and spirit -- as well as the values of ethics and social justice. With more than 5,000 undergraduate students and 3,000 graduate and law school students, LMU is the largest Catholic university in Southern California.

LMU History
The University was founded in 1911 as an outgrowth of St. Vincent’s College, the first college in Los Angeles. In 1928, the then Loyola College moved to its current location on the Westchester bluffs between the Pacific Ocean and downtown Los Angeles. Two years later, it became Loyola University. In 1973, the University merged with Marymount College to become Loyola Marymount University. Loyola Law School, located in downtown Los Angeles, was founded in 1920.

Academic Organization
LMU includes four colleges (Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, College of Business Administration, College of Communication and Fine Arts and the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering) as well as the School of Education, School of Film and Television, Graduate Division, LMU Extension, and Loyola Law School.
Economic Impact
The annual budget of more than $150 million equates to an economic impact of one-half billion dollars on the Los Angeles metropolitan area, and the University's net assets also total about one-half billion dollars. With about 1,500 faculty and staff, LMU is one of the major employers in Southern California.
