PASSION Magazine

PASSION Magazine: The LMU Student Social Justice Magazine

PASSION is a LMU student run social justice magazine sponsored by Campus Ministry’s Human Rights Coalition. PASSION Magazine believes in the interconnectedness of all humanity and seeks to encourage all members of the LMU community to find their place in the struggle for social justice. Being a voice for those who go unheard, PASSION Magazine aims to stir the passions of LMU students and our readers to commit themselves to helping renew the lost and marginalized voices of our society. PASSION Magazine strives recognize the human dignity of all people by publishing articles that put a real face to the issues and struggles of the forgotten. PASSION is a place where we share our stories, experiences, and reflections of working for justice and peace while inspiring others to seek social justice as well in their own unique ways.

PASSION Magazine works to create social awareness in the LMU community about injustices in our world while challenging us all to act for a more socially conscious society. We believe that justice must always be on our minds, in our actions, and in our hearts and that PASSION is that place where our conversations can take place as to how we can work to achieve justice and true peace. For the PASSION motto is to always -

Think Critically. Live Fully. Act Justly.

A Brief History

In the Spring of 2007, students together with the Director of Community Service and Justice Ministry, Brendan Busse, revived the LMU social justice publication. The HRC printed an initial 500 copies of a full color prototype of a social justice themed arts and culture magazine. Since then, the dedicated team of volunteer student staff has rejuvenated and transformed PASSION Magazine into a refreshing new voice for social justice at LMU. PASSION is currently published several times throughout the academic year. PASSION circulation has grown dramatically in the past few years, but it still remains a completely voluntary, student run magazine committed to the initial vision of being a faith-filled voice for justice and peace to the LMU community.

All submissions, editing and graphic design was done by students; fulfilling a goal of including students from many disciplines at the university in the collaborative effort of social justice. This partnership provides a diverse group of students with invaluable experience of what a professional justice advocacy campaign entails. If you are interested in merging your concern for social justice and your passion for the arts in any aspect of the publishing process (writing, photography, editing, graphic design, original artwork, etc.) please join the PASSION team.
