What is the LAREC?
The Religious Education Congress, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Office of Religious Education, is the nation’s largest annual gathering of Roman Catholics! With 40,000 in attendance, over the three days, Congress offers nearly 200 speakers presenting 300 sessions, from personal growth to music to spiritual topics – in English, Spanish and Vietnamese as well as a number of liturgies of different characters including African Black Culture, Contemplative, Spanish, Vietnamese, Celtic, Jazz, and Young Adult. Congress showcases hundreds of exhibitors – ranging from religious art to music, and from publishing houses to educational institutions, in addition to our own represented Archdiocesan ministries. Admission to Congress includes both free lunchtime and evening concerts – ranging from contemporary Christian music to leading Latino composers and artists. LAREC is held at the Anaheim Convention Center. It is a unique opportunity to grow in faith, take part in formational workshops, inspiring liturgies and connect with the wider church.
What do I need to do to apply?
To be considered for LMU sponsorship, you must complete the application (link below). Sponsorship includes hotel accommodations and complete congress registration fees (please note: meals are not included in this sponsorship). In filling out this application, you must commit to all the following if you are selected:
Pre-Congress Convo Informational Meeting
Thursday, March 4 during Convo hour in Sacred Heart Chapel Lower Level.
Presence at the entire LAREC
The expectation is that you are at Congress from beginning to end. This means you may need to make arrangements to miss any classes or on-campus commitments. Congress begins at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 19 and ends the evening of Sunday, March 21, 2010. As part of your sponsorship, you will be required to work once or twice during the event taking tickets or providing help with another simple task.
Post-Congress Dinner/Faith Sharing Meeting
Thursday, April 8, at 5:00 p.m. in Sacred Heart Chapel Lower Level
