OCTOBER CLASS SCHEDULE FOR LMU EXTENSION
Sept. 30, 2004 -- LMU Extension announces the following fall
classes beginning in October at the Loyola Marymount University
Westchester campus:
October 18
On Camera Acting Workshop
Students will learn the art of selling a product to television
audiences, how to audition for commercials, read storyboards,
analyze commercial copy, slate names and give profiles. This
workshop is designed for acting students, lecturers and others who
wish to improve their speaking skills. Taught by Lizzie Maxwell, an
actress, acting coach and author of "Little Fish in a Big Pond - A
Support Guide for Actors," the class meets Mondays, Oct. 18 -- Nov.
22, 7:15 -- 9:15 p.m. Cost is $165 and participants earn one

October 19
French II Intermediate
A continuation of French I, this class builds on speaking,
listening, reading and writing skills. Class meets Tuesdays, Oct.
19 -- Nov. 30, 7:15 -- 9:15 p.m., and is open to both continuing

Rags to Real Estate Riches
Ninety-seven percent of today's millionaires achieved their status
mainly through real estate. This seminar teaches students how to
purchase investment properties. Whether you make $30,000 or
$300,000, are highly leveraged, have good, bad, or no credit, this
seminar will help you change your life. The seminar, which is open

Mat Pilates II
Pilates was developed in the 1920s by legendary fitness
trainer, Joseph Pilates, to retrain the body to move in a balanced,
more efficient way. The series of exercises helps eliminate muscle
imbalances and creates a streamlined, lengthened, and strengthened
body. This class is taught by Heidi Pimentel, ACE Certified
Personal Trainer and co-star on ESPN2's "Gotta Sweat", and the
National Director for Cory Everson's Mind Body Retreat. Class meets

Rhythmic Yoga II
Learn to strengthen, stretch and re-align the body by linking the
breath with music. Each class closes with a period of
instructor-led deep relaxation. This class is taught by Heidi

Yoga Sadhana: Principles of a Healthy Life
Kausthub Desikachar, son and student of Sri TKV Desikachar, teaches
this three-day workshop during which students will explore the Yoga
Sutra of Patanjali, the first complete work on Yoga, which is
considered to be the final authority on the subject. Students will
also learn techniques for cultivating a healthy Yoga lifestyle.
This workshop is open to all, but will be especially beneficial to
teachers and practitioners of Yoga. Class meets Friday -- Saturday,
Oct. 22 - 23, 6 -- 9 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 24, 9 a.m. -- 1:30 p.m.

Marketing Yourself in the Entertainment Industry
In this three-hour seminar students will learn how to write and
present a resume that sells, meet and present themselves to the
right people and where to network. Role-playing will be part of
this class. Taught by Lizzie Maxwell, actress, acting coach and
author of "Little Fish in a Big Pond - A Support Guide for Actors,"
the workshop will meet on Saturday, Oct. 23, 10 a.m. -- 1 p.m. Cost

Health Education in the Schools
The nature and scope of health education, including
nutritionally balanced diets, tobacco, alcohol, narcotics, designer
drugs and HIV/Aids are covered. This course meets California State
requirements for the Preliminary 2042 Multiple and Single subject
credentials and the Professional CLAD/BCLAD credentials. Open to
educators, this class meets Saturdays, Oct. 23 -- Nov. 13, 9 a.m.
-- 1 p.m. Tuition is $300 and participants earn two semester hours

Gujarati II
Continuing students will build on the skills learned in Gujarati I,
which is a prerequisite. The class is taught by Dr. Sitanshu
Yashaschahdra, a distinguished author, teacher, and editor. He was
a visiting professor at Sorbonne University, and has lectured at
the Universities of Chicago, Heidelburg, and Delhi. Class meets

Students will continue to expand on beginning skills for speaking

Introduction to German II
Students will improve their German language oral and grammar skills

Integrating Technology for Secondary Educators
This hands-on, project-based class focuses on how technology can be
used to support and enhance subject matter competency. Students
will collaborate with others within their subject matter specialty.
Open to all secondary educators, this course fulfills the
technology requirement for the California Level 2 Teaching
Credential. Class meets Tuesdays, Oct. 26 -- Dec. 7, 4 -- 6:30 p.m.

Katha Upanishad
Taught by R. Narayanaswami, Ph.D., a founding member of the
Venkateshvara Temple in Malibu, this course builds on the themes
explored in the first Upanishads course, though that course is not
a prerequisite. In the Katha Upanishad, a young boy has a dialogue
with Lord Yama, the Lord of Death. The dialogue serves to provide
enlightenment on the great transition called death. The class is
open to all, but will be especially beneficial to teachers and
practitioners of yoga. Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 27

Prevention, Education and Intervention for Alcohol and Other
Drugs Online Course
This online class explores the major theories and approaches to
prevention, education and intervention into the use and abuse of
psychoactive substances. Relevant research, theory and trends in
the primary prevention field are reviewed. Students will learn
primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies and
techniques. Class meets Wednesdays, Oct. 27 -- Dec. 15. Students
must have a computer and access to the Internet to participate in
this course. Cost is $165 and students earn one semester hour of
