IRISH POET KATIE DONOVAN TO GIVE READING AT LOYOLA
MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY IN LOS ANGELES ON OCTOBER 5
Irish poet Katie Donovan will give a
poetry reading at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles on
Tuesday, October 5, 2004, in University Hall?s 4th Floor McIntosh
Center. The reading, beginning at 7:30 p.m., is sponsored by the
English Department, the Irish Studies Program, and the Women?s
Studies Program, and is free and open to the public, with a
reception to follow.
Donovan has published three books of poetry, Watermelon Man, 1993;
Entering the Mare, 1997; and Day of the Dead, 2002, all from
Bloodaxe Books(UK). She is also the co-editor, along with A. Norman
Jeffares and Brendan Kennelly, of Ireland's Women: Writings Past
and Present, published by Gill and Macmillan in Ireland (1994) and
by Norton in the US (1996), as well as co-editor with Brendan
Kennelly of Dublines, an anthology about Dublin, also published by
Bloodaxe Books, 1996, and the author of a discursive pamphlet,
Irish Women Writers - Marginalised by Whom (Raven, 1988).
From 1990-2002 Donovan worked as a journalist with the Irish Times
as a features and art writer, as well as an editor. In addition,
she has had her poetry broadcast on and contributed to literary
programs on RTE radio and BBC radio, and given literary talks,
workshops and readings in many countries, including the US, the UK,
France, Belgium, Denmark and Portugal. Her poetry has been
favorably reviewed by such influential Irish poets as Eavan Boland,
Eilean Ni Chuilleanain, and Bernard O'Donoghue.
