FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE:
HIGH PROTEIN DIETS, MEAT CONSUMPTION, VEGETARIAN, OR
VEGAN - WHICH IS REALLY THE HEALTHIEST
LIFESTYLE?
Dr. John A. McDougall and Nutritionist Deanna Latson To Speak At
Loyola Marymount University as Part of Student-Sponsored Health
Debate on November 11
November 6, 2003 -- High protein
diets and meat and dairy consumption versus the benefits of a
vegetarian or vegan lifestyle will be debated by Dr. John
McDougall, author of 10 national best sellers on food and
nutrition, and Deanna Latson, nutritionist and top college health
speaker, during "The Great Health Debate - Part I" on Tuesday,
November 11, at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Hilton 100,
and is open to the public free of charge.
Both McDougall and Latson support the case for vegetarianism, and
will cite research about the health benefits of a meat-free
lifestyle. Topics addressed will include the health and safety of
high protein diets, food intake as a cause of cancer and other
diseases, and the role of dairy products in overall health, among
others.
The event, sponsored by the Associated Students of Loyola Marymount
University (ASLMU), will be broadcast live via satellite to more
than 50 colleges and universities throughout the United States as a
part of The Society of Success and Leadership - an organization
that provides year-round leadership training to student
leaders.
McDougall is the founder and medical director of the nationally
renowned McDougall Program, a 10-day residential program located at
a luxury resort in Santa Rosa, Calif. He has nearly three decades
of medical experience, and has run a live-in program for more than
17 years. McDougall also developed a low-fat, starch-based diet
that seeks to promote a broad range of dramatic and lasting health
benefits such as weight (fat) loss and the reversal of serious
illnesses - such as heart disease - without drugs. He is the author
of several best-selling books, including: The McDougall Plan: 12
Days to Dynamic Health, McDougall's Medicine:A Challenging Second
Opinion, The McDougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss, The New
McDougall Cookbook, The McDougall Program for Women, and his latest
book, The McDougall Program for a Healthy Heart.
Deanna Latson is director of the Good Thinking Co., a provider of
success-oriented services, products and experiences, as well as an
internationally recognized nutritional educator. She is a
Clinically Certified Nutritionist, and holds a masters degree from
San Francisco State University, where she taught for five
years.
Latson joined the speaking circuit in 1998 with one of the most
popular National Lecture Showcases ever given for the National
Association for Campus Activities (NACA). She has been nominated as
the 2003 Speaker of the Year by NACA activities
programmers.
Latson offers nutritionally sound health advice, and a powerful
personal story about her own road to wellness. Her story is
featured in several books, including Perfect Body, Major in
Success, and Gearing Up. She has spoken at universities and
companies around the world, including Stanford University, NYU,
AT&T, and Visa.
