COMMUNITY EVENTS AT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY IN APRIL

March 18, 2004 - Loyola Marymount University invites the public to attend a variety of musical events and art exhibits in April.

April 17: Variety of Music, Instruments Featured at Afternoon Concert
LMU's Chamber Ensembles will perform in An Afternoon of Chamber Music on April 17 at 3 p.m. Featured performers include string quartets and piano duets playing a broad selection of classical music. The concert will be held in Murphy Recital Hall. Admission is free. For more information, contact the Department of Music at 310.338.5386.

April 17: Enjoy a Mix of West African Music, Vocals and Dance
The Department of Music presents the World Music Concert on April 17 at 8 p.m. The concert will feature LMU's World Music Ensemble, which incorporates various drums, idiophones, and dance. Vocalists also will sing traditional African music. Admission is free. For more information, please contact 310.338.5386.

April 18: An Evening of Guitar Ensemble and Chamber Music
The Department of Music's guitar and chamber ensemble will perform at Murphy Recital Hall on April 18 at 7:30 p.m. The evening will feature gifted students on brass, string, percussion, and woodwinds. The concert is free of charge. For questions, please call 310.338.5386.

April 24: Chamber Orchestra Featured in Concert
LMU's Chamber Orchestra will perform in concert on April 24 at 8 p.m. in Murphy Recital Hall. The evening will feature a selection of classic music performed by woodwinds, string, and brass. The performance is open to the public free of charge. For more information, call 310.338.5386.

April 25: Exceptional Students Demonstrate Musical Skill
Select students will perform a series of solos on April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Murphy Recital Hall. Performers will be determined by faculty nomination. Admission is free. For more information, contact the Department of Music at 310.338.5386.

April 29-May 7: Student Art Exhibit and Reception at Laband Gallery
The Laband Art Gallery will host its annual student art exhibition beginning April 29. The show opens with an open reception on April 29 from 5-7 p.m., to be held in the Dunning Courtyard at Fritz B. Burns Fine Arts Center. Food and drink will be offered. The reception is open to the public free of charge. For more information, please call 310.338.2880. Through May 7, a selection of student art will be featured in the juried show. Pieces are chosen from a wide array of artwork from the past academic year.
