LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY IN LOS ANGELES
ANNOUNCES SEARCH FOR ACADEMIC VICE PRESIDENT
June 18, 2004 - Loyola Marymount
University in Los Angeles has begun an international search to
invite nominations and applications for the position of Academic
Vice President.
Located on the west side of Los Angeles overlooking the Pacific,
Loyola Marymount is one of the nation's 28 Jesuit colleges and
universities and five Marymount institutions of higher learning.
Founded in 1911, the university currently enrolls 5400
undergraduates and over 2500 graduate students in the
Colleges/Schools of Liberal Arts, Communication and Fine Arts,
Business Administration, Science and Engineering, Film and
Television, Education, and Law. Except for the Law School, which
operates on a separate, downtown campus, the Academic Vice
President oversees all academic units and reports directly to the
President.
The University is in a period of major growth and therefore seeks
an academic leader with significant administrative experience in a
complex and comprehensive institution. Among other challenges, the
Academic Vice President will be expected to:
- Lead faculty to new levels of
professional achievement and assist them in balancing the demands
of teaching, scholarship, and service
- Streamline reporting structures to
promote shared responsibility and operating efficiency
- Maintain and further the gains of
recent intercultural initiatives
- Promote the University's Catholic
intellectual tradition and Jesuit-Marymount heritages

qualified candidates will be adept at communicating, listening, and
consensus building. Candidates also must have experience with

cabinet members and the President in implementing the University's
strategic plan and carrying out its mission and goals. Applicants
will have an understanding and appreciation of mainstream Catholic
higher education and a commitment to ethnic diversity and gender
balance, and will be energized by the possibilities of living and
working in Los Angeles and finding creative educational links
between the University and the City.
The position will be available June 1, 2005. Review of applications
