MUSICIANS, CLASSIC OPERA FEATURED AT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY IN

2004—Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles invites
the community to attend the many arts events happening on campus
throughout March.
March 12, 8 p.m. : Grammy-Nominated Paul Salamunovich
Featured in Choral Concert
Paul Salamunovich will conduct the St. Charles Borromeo Choir in a
concert at Sacred Heart Chapel on March 12 at 8 p.m. The choir will
perform with LMU Choruses, directed by Dr. Mary Breden.
Salamunovich has conducted choirs for many Hollywood films,
including My Best Friend’s Wedding and The Devil’s
Advocate, and Breden has conducted the LMU Concert Choir at New
York’s famed Carnegie Hall. The performance is free and open
to the public. The event launches LMU Choruses Spring Tour. For

March 13, 3 p.m. : Preview Mozart’s Fantastical Final
Opera The Magic Flute in English Translation
Mozart’s The Magic Flute will be presented in a preview
matinee on March 13 at 3 p.m. in Murphy Recital Hall. A combination
of legend, fantasy, and symbolism, the opera features benevolent
spirits, a virtuous prince and princess, and the bird catcher
Papageno. Virginia Saya directs. The matinee is open to the public

March 15, 8 p.m. : Women’s Chorus Festival Showcases
Student Vocal Talent
The Department of Music will feature female vocalists from LMU
Choruses at Sacred Heart Chapel on March 15 at 8 p.m. The choral
group is recognized nationally for producing stunning music at the
collegiate level. The event is open to the public free of charge.

March 18-21, 24-27: Aeschylus’ The Persians Blends
True Events and Tragedy
LMU’s Department of Theatre Arts and Dance presents
Aeschylus’ The Persians on March 18-20 at 8 p.m., March 21 at
3 p.m., and March 24-27 at 8 p.m. All performances will be held in
Strub Theatre. First performed in Athens in 472 B.C., The Persians
is the earliest surviving Greek tragedy. The cost is $10 for the

March 19 –21: Magical Characters and Music on Stage in
Mozart’s The Magic Flute
The opera opens on March 19 at 8 p.m. with other performances on
March 20 at 8 p.m. and March 21 at 3 p.m. All performances will be
held in Murphy Recital Hall; they are open to the public free of

March 27, 8 p.m. : Acclaimed Argentinean Guitarist Eduardo
Isaac Gives Rare Performance
Internationally acclaimed musician Eduardo Isaac will perform at
Murphy Recital Hall on March 27 at 8 p.m. as part of the Loyola
Marymount University Guitar and Masterclass Series. This rare Los
Angeles performance will feature a mixture of contemporary, jazz,
and Baroque music. Isaac won eight international guitar contests in
four years, and he has performed with orchestras around the world,
including in Japan, Korea, France, and Spain. Tickets are $22 for

March 28, 1 p.m. : Eduardo Isaac Offers Instruction to
Aspiring Musicians
