JANUARY CLASSES ANNOUNCED FOR LMU EXTENSION
December 16, 2004 –LMU Extension announces the following
classes beginning in January at the Loyola Marymount University
Westchester campus:
January
10
On the Ball with Heidi I &
II
Heidi Pimentel, who has appeared on
ESPN2's "GOTTA SWEAT" with Cory Everson, leads muscle-conditioning
classes using the stability ball. Sessions have been extended to
eight weeks. Session I meets Mondays, Jan. 10 – Feb. 28, 6:15
– 7:15 p.m., and Session II meets Mondays, March 7 –
Apr. 11, 6:15 – 7:15 p.m. Tuition for each session is $135,

Introduction to German
I
Students gain insight to German
culture, and learn basic grammar and vocabulary for everyday use.

Introduction to the Alexander
Technique
This course allows students to
observe their postural habits in walking, standing, sitting and
speaking. Students learn tools for improving coordination and

Beginning Hatha Yoga I &
II
Students learn how to achieve
flexibility, improve circulation and muscular tone. The class is an
ideal means of stress reduction and is designed to help students
begin a daily home-practice of yoga. Sessions have been increased
to eight weeks. Students should bring their own yoga mat. Session I
meets Tuesdays, Jan. 11 – March 1, 5:15 – 6:30 p.m.,
and Session II meets Tuesdays, March 8 – May 3, 5:15 –
6:30 p.m. Tuition is $180 for each session, or $320 for both

Case Management and Basic
Counseling Skills in the Treatment of Addiction
Introduction to, and training of,
basic individual counseling skills, intake, assessment, diagnosis,
treatment planning, referral, insurance and other aspects of case
management. This course is designed for students working toward the
Addiction Counseling Certificate, counselors working in alcohol and
drug treatment centers, and therapists who need training in this
specialized area of counseling. Class meets Tuesdays, Jan. 11
– Apr. 26, 7:15 – 9:45 p.m. Tuition is $450 and

Spanish III
Students will improve upon their

Greece
Covering the history of Greece in

Introduction to Drum &
Percussion
Valuable to all levels, from
beginner to professional, this course provides hands-on experience
and addresses all aspects of drumming: reading music, learning to

Rhythmic Yoga I &
II
Learn how to strengthen, stretch and
re-align the body. Students are led through a series of asanas

Mat Pilates I &
II
Developed by fitness trainer Joseph
Pilates in the 1920s, Pilates retrains the body to move in a
balanced, more efficient way through integrated exercises designed
to eliminate muscle imbalances and create a streamlined,
strengthened body. Sessions are eight weeks long. Session I meets
Thursdays, Jan. 13 – March 3, 5:15 – 6:15 p.m., and

Human Resources Management
Certificate Program
This comprehensive course explores
all major functional areas of Human Resources Management. Topics
covered include: recruitment and selection; latest significant
statutes, court cases and EEOC rules; HR information systems;
compensation concepts and performance management; employee
benefits, and high-risk terminations. This program is open to all
students interested in advancing their career in HR management.
Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a
certificate in Human Resources Management from Loyola Marymount

Tradition
Students will learn the historical
development of the Greek Orthodox Christian faith from

Ceramics Workshop
This class will handle design
problems with ceramic materials incorporating wheel-thrown and
hand-building techniques, development of a personal style and
advanced firing techniques. Advanced ceramics ability is necessary

Home, School Cooperation and
Parent Conferencing I
Explore the dynamics of
teacher-parent interaction to create positive partnerships between
home and school. The course is open to students interested in a

Principles and Practices of Early
Childhood Education
Students will be introduced to the
philosophies, history, practices, and the role of the teacher in
quality early childhood programs. Developmentally Appropriate
Practice will be explored, and direct observation of ECE
environments and teaching practices is required. This class is
designed for teachers and prospective teachers of young children,
especially those working in children's and home day care centers in

Beginning and Advanced
Jewelry
In this dual-level class, students
learn dye forming, roller printing, faceted stone setting, and
enameling. For advanced students, designing is developed to a more
sophisticated level. Class size is limited to 16 participants.

Employee Relations
Students will focus on the
principles of employee relations and the application of HR law in
the workplace. Learn to identify practices that contribute to
employer liability, and how to design and implement policies for
prevention. Topics include: discipline, termination, leaves of
absence, drug and polygraph testing, and harassment, among others.
This class is open to HR professionals and students working toward
the LMU Advanced Certificate in HR Management. Class meets
