SOCAL EDISON DONATES $30,000 FOR LATINO SCHOLARSHIPS AT
LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY

July 22, 2004 - Southern California Edison is donating $30,000 to Loyola Marymount University's Mexican American Alumni Association (MAAA) in support of scholarships for Latino students, announced MAAA director Etelvina de La Torre.

MAAA provides scholarships to qualified Latino students attending the university who have an unmet financial need, and demonstrate both academic excellence and leadership skills through community involvement.

"I am delighted that Southern California Edison has chosen to support MAAA's efforts with such a generous gift," said de La Torre. "This is an especially exciting time for MAAA to be the recipient of this award because it's a matching fund-incentive grant aimed at increasing the financial support we currently receive from our alumni in support of scholarships for Latino students."

A resource of financial support for economically disadvantaged Latinos students who would not otherwise be able to attend a private institution of higher learning, MAAA receives financial support from alumni, parents, and corporations to sustain the scholarship fund and endowment.

Over the past 23 years, MAAA has helped thousands of Latino students. Since its founding in 1981, MAAA has awarded about $1,000,000 in scholarships. Created by a group of alumni seeking to create quality educational opportunities for Latino students at LMU, MAAA fosters two key elements of the university's mission: serving others and embracing diversity.

The donation from Southern California Edison will be paid out over a period of three years.

Southern California Edison, or SCE, is part of Edison International, an international electric power generator, distributor, and structured finance provider. Edison's family of companies develops, acquires, finances, owns, operates, and maintains power systems around the world.
