DECLARE YOURSELF CAMPAIGN VISITS LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
UNIVERSITY
IN LOS ANGELES ON
APRIL 29
Original Copy of the Declaration of Independence to Empower,
Energize, and Rally Students to "Find Their Reason" to Register and
to Vote in the 2004 Election
April 14, 2004 - Declare Yourself, a
national, nonpartisan, nonprofit young voter empowerment campaign,
is stopping at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles on
Thursday, April 29, from 11:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the University
Hall atrium to energize and challenge students to register and to
vote in the 2004 election.
Declare Yourself's voter campaign, founded by TV producer Norman
Lear, is the culmination of a three-year project, the Declaration
of Independence Road Trip, a 51-city cross-country tour of the
Declaration of Independence and a multimedia exhibit on the
contemporary relevance of our nation's birth certificate. The
original copy of the Declaration of Independence, printed on the
night of July 4, 1776, is part of the college campus tour and
serves as an inspirational symbol to rally young voters to
participate in their future.
"Getting young people to vote is a sizeable challenge, but we're
going to move the mountain one rock at a time," said project
founder Norman Lear. "Our task at hand is very much like the one
the founders of the Declaration of Independence faced, and like our
founders, we are deeply committed to this cause. We challenge
Americans between the ages of 18 and 29, especially first time
voters, to find their reason to register and to vote."
