Civil Engineering
The Civil Engineer plans, designs and oversees the construction of a wide variety of public and private engineering projects that improve the quality of life protect the environment, and facilitate economic growth. These projects include roads and highways, railroads, mass transit systems, airports, bridges, buildings, structures, harbors, flood control and drainage works, water supply, water treatment and distribution systems; wastewater collection, treatment, disposal and reuse systems; irrigation systems, solid waste disposal facilities, pipelines, and powerplants.
The Civil Engineer applies scientific and economic principles to evaluate the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of projects and prepares or assists in the preparation of environmental impact reports, topographic and boundary surveys, and soils and geotechnical investigations.
The Civil Engineer prepares reports, maps, plans, project specifications and monitors the progress of construction to ensure conformance with the plans.
The Civil Engineering Department offers a track that emphasizes traditional Civil Engineering as well as one that emphasizes Environmental Engineering.
Environmental Engineering
The Civil Engineering Department offers track that emphasizes Environmental Engineering. Environmental Engineering is a branch of Civil Engineering. Students who choose the Environmental Engineering track have a program of classes that is more focused in this area.
Environmental Science
The undergraduate Environmental Science Program is part of the Department of Natural Science. The Civil Engineering Department does offer a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Science.
