LMU Provides Free Shuttle to MTA Green Line Station

green lineAfter the launch of Loyola Marymount University’s new parking program last fall, the university is offering a free shuttle service for all students, faculty and staff who commute to campus as an alternative option for transportation.

The shuttle service will run year-round except on university holidays.

“We’re very excited about the LMU shuttle,” said Mike Wong, associate vice president of administration and member of the parking advisory committee. “Providing shuttle rides makes it easier for members of our community to utilize public transportation and it gives those who commute a practical alternative to bringing a car to campus.”

The shuttle runs to and from the Metro Green Line Station at Aviation and Imperial Hwy to the LMU campus between the hours of 5:30 – 10 a.m. and 3 – 7 p.m. All that is needed to use the service is a valid LMU OneCard.  Lesley Wheeler, a staff member at LMU, commutes from Long Beach on the Metro and then takes the shuttle to campus. She said the benefits of using public transportation and the shuttle service are cost and consistency.

“It’s impossible to know what’s happening on the freeways in Los Angeles, but the Metro and shuttle service usually have been consistent,” Wheeler said. “I’m also saving up to $250 a month in gas and other maintenance fees.”

The shuttle program is one of many options that the university is providing for the LMU community as an alternative to parking on campus. Other options include a carpool and vanpool program.
