CALENDAR RELEASE

DANCING AT LUGHNASA, WRITTEN BY BRIAN FRIEL AND DIRECTED BY JUDITH ROYER, OPENS OCT. 9 AT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY’S STRUB THEATER

October 18, 2003 – The Loyola Marymount University Department of Theatre Arts and Dance announces its production of Dancing at Lughnasa, written by Brian Friel and directed by Judith Royer.  The play is an extraordinarily poignant story of five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936.

Told through the memory of the illegitimate son of one of the sisters, the story is set against both the family's Catholic traditions and the disruption caused by the pagan harvest festival of Lughnasa.  It is a celebration of life, of love, and loss, as the spare existence of this family is interrupted by romance and hope for themselves and for the world at large.  Widely regarded as Brian Friel's masterpiece, this haunting play is Friel's tribute to the spirit and valor of the past.

Dancing at Lughnasa stars: Karen Anzoatagui as Rose, Monique Brown as Chris, Danielle Daboub as Kate, Lidsey Kolve as Agnes, Brian Morgan as Gerry, Jenna Robino as Maggie, Ryan Stevens as Michael, and Eli Thomas as Jack.

Performances begin on October 9-11, with October 12 as a 3 pm matinee.  Additional shows are on October 14-17, 2003.  For all evening shows, curtain is at 8 pm.  All performances will be held in Strub Theatre in the Foley Building on the Loyola Marymount University campus.  Tickets are $10 general admission, or$5 for students and senior citizens.

For tickets call the Central Ticket Agency at (310) 338-7588.
